“Avoid Insults and Threats…” Imam Urges Muslims
The Regional Chief Imam of the United Council of Imams in Sierra Leone in charge of the western part of Freetown, Imam Alhaji Alie Bangura, who is also the chief Imam of Masjid Ijtihaj (Congo Cross Central Mosque), has exhorted political leaders and their supporters to stop trading insults and threats before, during, and after the electioneering process to ensure peace.
‘’We expect our politicians to debate crucial issues that affect the development of our nation and the general welfare of the greater majority of our people, particularly the poor, weak and vulnerable in society’’, he said.
The chief Imam made the appeal during the ‘Juma ‘ Friday prayer held at the Congo Cross Central Mosque, which attracted hundreds of Muslim worshippers from all walks of life, including local politicians from both the ruling APC party and the main opposition SLPP.
He said political leaders and those vying for position of leadership should show how they would equitably distribute God-given natural resources and human capital and incorporate into their manifestos, programmes, and policies that are development oriented.
