Press Release – OPWA 2012 Post Global Conference

Dear All:  Old Prince Waleans Association, USA (Washington DC Metropolitan Area Branch) (OPWA) concluded the 7th annual global conference of Prince Waleans alumni associations, held from Friday, August 31, 2012 to Saturday September 1, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel in Largo, Maryland.

OPWA had representatives present from all six chapters who presented a white paper on topics that would help move the school forward in the years to come.

The guest speaker Dr. Francis Nicol presented a paper on how OPWA could, as one body help our Alma mater take ownership of our limitations and ways to help bridge the gap and edge the Prince of Wales School has lost.

The main theme throughout the conference echoed this year’s conference theme: Global Strategy for Education: The road to recovery-Sowing, the seeds for a brighter future. Every chapter came up with goals and solutions based on the theme with the singular notion that the present conditions and standards are not acceptable and that we need to work together as one body to tackle these problems. The conference also brought out the necessity for chapters to start working hand in hand to facilitate these initiatives. The future also played a big part in the proceedings with the formulation of a foundation that is still under progress. This foundation will in the future help the school to receive and utilize funds to maintain and uphold the buildings, faculty, curriculum, students, and programs among other things.

We’re looking for new ideas and volunteers to assist in, including being more active and present in the association’s affairs. The road ahead is a long and challenging one, but we can overcome those obstacles and road blocks if we increase our involvement and participation in the association which means having more people coming out and being actively involved in the affairs of the association.

We will like to thank all the attendees and participants for their time and their contributions. We will also like to thank the following sponsors: His Excellency Bockari Stevens, Mohamed L. Bah of Medsatu Forex Inc., Bazilio Cobb Associates PC, The Grammar School Old Boys Association Washington DC, Goodfambul.com, Albert Academy Alumni Association, Daramy Dental Inc., St Joseph’s Convent Alumni Association, Baana Nursery & Preparatory School Freetown, Annie Walsh Memorial School Old Girls Association Washington Metropolitan Branch, Methodist Girls’ High School Old Girls Association Washington Metropolitan Branch, Almira Wilson of Leonche LLC,  Freetown Secondary School for Girls Alumni Association, Parkinson Construction Company,  A & L Arth Line Graphics & Creative Design LLC, The Prince of Wales Alumni Association, Georgia Chapter and Koto LLC.
