Trouble Looms…State House to the Rescue

All hell let loose past Wednesday when supporters of both Hon Tunde Lewally and APC aspirant Mohamed Muchato Kamara clashed on supremacy over each other at a nomination sensitization meeting held at the Obama Hall, Savage Square.

The Electoral Committee members including, Minkailu Mansaray, Afsatu Kamara and Mohamed L Bangura were left shell shocked when desperate supporters of the two factions started brandishing knives and raining abusive languages on each other. The incident left the committee with no alternative but to abandon the process and later called for police to restore sanity.

The situation could have even got worse if police had not interfered.

On Thursday 30th President Koroma and the elders of the party reportedly summoned the aspirants to a round table discussion on the need to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquilly in the run up to the elections in November this year.

There had been reported cases of skirmishes that have erupted in similar meetings that have left senior party stalwarts bewildered. One of such instances is the case of Councilor Kanu of 103 who reportedly splashed human fesses on other party members during a similar meeting in Wellington past weekend and is currently being squeezed by the appropriate authorities with regards his action.

  • It is a matter of serious concern that persons vying for candidacy of the APC party (with thier supporters) should be engaged in such vile, brutish and despicable behaviour. The party must have a policy that excludes such persons from the election process, as thier behaviour (and that of their supporters) makes them unfit for public office in the current era of change in Sierra Leone. Condoning such vile and brutish behaviour would not augar well for peaceful elections. President Koroma and the elders must be firm and clear in addressing such despicable behaviour.
