Why Ojukutu-Macauley Jnr. Should Be Awarded APC Symbol

Mayorial candidate for the Freetown City Council under the APC ticket, Winston Ojukutu-Macauley Jnr. yesterday informed this medium that he is presently conducting a survey to know the concerns of residents in the municipality in the areas of provision of markets and public utilities, cleaning of the city, sale of food and waste management which contract he would review if elected.

He also revealed that under his administration, he would partner with the private sector to transform council disclosing that he has held consultations with various stakeholders including market women, Sweissy Jewelers, Commercial Motorbike Riders and Belgium Sellers among others to transform the city.

Another issue Winston Ojukutu-Macauley promised to address is the acute accommodation shortage in the city revealing that he will partner with “banks, NASSIT and other investors to utilize property belonging to the Council to provide affordable housing as within 2 years I will start the construction of the first set of affordable and decent housing.”

Responding to a question posed by this medium as to why he is only now joining the race, he said “I am firmly convinced that I will deliver since only fools do not change. I have seen tangible changes that convinced me to join the race. Within 1 to 2 years Freetown will be a clean city and the street trading issue will be addressed after the next general elections as several infrastructures will be put in place.”

He also disclosed that he hails from a family of APC supporters dating back to over twenty years during the tenure of Dr. June Holst-Ronness as Mayor and the former Chief Justice  Desmond Luke who at the time represented Freetown West III in Parliament under the APC asserting, “I am a born and bred APC to the core. People should not see my work as anti-APC.”

According to Winston Ojukutu-Macauley Jnr., he returned to Freetown after eight years in the UK and pledged his support and loyalty to President Koroma and the party.

He continued that while in the UK, he offered many support to his compatriots and the country as well as identified projects to be implemented in the country.

He recalled that when Julius Maada Bio won the SLPP flag bearer ship, he interviewed over 100 people which he published in the Awoko and other online newspapers with the caption ‘Freetown Is Still Red’ in spite of complaints by some members of the public about harsh economic conditions and the perceived poor performance of some state functionaries.

Winston Ojukutu-Macauley went on to describe the APC as a grassroots party highlighting that he has cross-party support and affirmed that politics is all about numbers which he said he possesses for the APC to win the polls.

He attributed his popularity to his forthright and objective reporting and pledged to bring change in the political landscape of Sierra Leone with the optimism that he would be awarded the APC symbol.

“President Ernest Bai Koroma has performed tremendously well in transforming the country from the Agenda for Change to Agenda for Prosperity which I am going work on to make the lives of Sierra Leoneans the best in the sub-region especially Freetownians.”
