Finance minister signs $15 million loan agreement

Freetown, August 24 (SLENA): The Minister of Finance & Economic Development, Dr Samura Kamara (in photo) and the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Kuang Weilin have signed a fifteen million dollar frame work agreement between the Peoples Republic of China and the Government of Sierra Leone on provision of concessional loan by China to Sierra Leone.

The loan will be utilized to implement the national optic fiber backbone project in Sierra Leone as agreed upon by both parties.

According to report, the Government of China and the Government of Sierra Leone shall review the utilization of the loan at any time and consult with each other on any issues which may arise in the course of implementation.

In his remarks, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr Samura Kamara, thanked the Chinese Ambassador and his team on behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone for their good gesture, noting that the signing of the loan agreement is in preparation for the fiber optic which will enable every Sierra Leonean to benefit from the international fiber from Paris to Sierra Leone.

He further expressed gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador for providing the facility which enables the Government to build a national platform on which the citizens will benefit from the optic which, according to him, will provide faster internet facilities as the band will be increased, adding that the project will be done by Huawei Technologies and Co Limited.

In his statement, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Kuang Weilin, said he intended to speed up the process in order for the service provider to complete the job on time and called on the Government of Sierra Leone to collaborate with his to ensure that they speed up the process.
