Tertiary Institution Academia Sierra Leone in collaboration with Fambul Tok International held a one day program at the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, Goodrich Campus, with the theme “The role of the Academia in national political discourse.”

Speaking at the overview of the project designed by the Tertiary Institution Academia Sierra Leone, Head of Peace and Conflict Study at the Fourah Bay College, Memunatu Pratt said the project started off with a pre-consultative meeting held at other colleges and universities in the country in order to gather various opinions and views on what they prefer to salvage the existing problems affecting the academia.

She noted also that this background was aimed to give students the responsibility to contribute in developing the country themselves at large for the greater good of society; she maintained that the second stage of the project is to strengthen the issues that come out of the consultative meetings, use them as a blue print of action that would be thrown into different institutions for use, as it will be heralded into a text book to be used as a referral guide.

During the forum other universities such as Njala and MMCET gave their contributions on the issues debated by both representative and the students of the Milton Margai College of Education over the various issues which range from establishing fair play in Elections, Ethnicity, Regionalism and Tribalism, they resolved that they will articulate these issues to the Leaders of this country to embrace political tolerance, non violence in elections and enhance the role of academia in politics.

Madam Memunatu Pratt, in her closing remarks advised all academia to be part of the developmental process in the country as she says that the November 17th election is time for them to exercise their responsibility by avoiding violent activities.
