According to United Nations Integrated Peace Building (UNIPSIL) Officer Orogade Abimbola it is revealed that representatives from ten (10) registered political parties in Sierra Leone will be leaving for a five-day political tour to the Republic of Ghana.
Mr. Orogade said the parties will be leaving the shores of this country on Tuesday August14th and the parties include the ruling All Peoples Congress Party (APC), the main oppositions Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Peoples Movement for Democratic Change Party (PMDC), The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Citizen’s Democratic Party (CDP), Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP), People’s Liberation Party (PLP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the United National People’s Party (UNPP), and the United Democratic Movement Party (UDMP).
Mr. Orogade Abimbola maintained that the objective of the five-day tour to Ghana is to allow political parties to share comparative political experience with their Ghanaian sister nation, as Ghana is regarded as the model of African democracy.
He explained further that whilst in Ghana these parties will have the opportunity to visit the Kofi Anan Institute, the Ghanaian Parliament, the Ghana National Electoral Body, and interact with various political parties in Ghana.
The UNIPSIL officer said this idea was conceived two years ago under the non-state actor project, he went further to advise representatives to put aside their political differences.
Registrar for the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), Abraham John, stated that Ghana is known for its strong political system, he urged the delegation to be responsible and exhibit the values and principles of the state in the November 17 polls. Mr. Abraham John said he hoped that the delegation will learn from the Ghanaian political system of good governance, the internal part nomination system. and also how finances are being raised by political parties.
The various representatives of the political parties expressed their profound joy about the tour and went on to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the PPRC to complement their support. The team will present a vivid report on their return date 19th August 2012
