Violence is Beyond Politics…says Hon Nurudeen Sankoh

Honorable Member of Parliament representing Constituency (105), Nurudeen Sankoh-Yillah told a large gathering of youths that violence in this country is beyond politics.

He made this statement at the official launching ceremony of Youth Network for Violence at the National Stadium Swimming Pool Complex on Saturday 11, August. Mr. Nurudeen who is also chairman for the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Youth and Sport revealed that politics is not the only arena were violence is seen in this country; he citied areas such as sport, land tussles and social events where youths have exhibited violent tendencies.

He urged youths to stay clear of the culture of violence and to embrace a non-violent approach, not just for political reasons but also in social related behavior.

Talking on this issue, Executive Coordinator Youth Network for Violence Free Election, Alphonso Manley, said that his network campaign will not only focus on the 2012 elections, but will attempt to spread its non-violence based approach in other areas.

He noted that they will target every facet in society that are agents of igniting violence until peace and responsible youth behavior becomes a habit amongst Sierra Leoneans both nationally and internationally.

President of National Youth Coalition, Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh and the Director for Anti-Violence Movement, Bernard said they are embarking on educational campaigns based at institutions nationwide.
