More Development at African Minerals
The biggest iron ore mining company in Sierra Leone – African Minerals, which recently bagged a prestigious international award for its endeavors, continues to record more advancement as it has jet in a brand new German made helicopter to help in the successful completion of the rail and port project undertaken in the country.
Estimated at half a million dollars, the nine-setter German Air Bus, is said to have been purchased to provide effective emergency medication to sick and injured workers on duty; airlifting them to Freetown in case of serious injury that could not take to first aid.
Company officials have said that the helicopter would be based at the Lungi International Airport; about 12 miles from the main rail construction site. The company is doing this on the basis that the government and the people of Sierra Leone know that it is serious and cares for the welfare of all those within its purview. The construction of a modern railway is expected to span from the African Minerals concession in Lunsar in the far north to Pepel and Targrin in near North-West of the country.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the flight will be solely used for medical purposes to enhance the company’s workforce by 2010 and will be stocked with first-class medical facilities. A hanger for the craft will soon be constructed at the Lungi International Airport.
