CID invites Palo Conteh

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Superintendent Karrow Kamara has extended an official invitation for the Minister of Defence, retired Major Palo Conteh, to make an official statement over the tussle which erupted between him and some ex-combatants tagged Wounded In Action (WIA) soldiers on Thursday August 2nd, 2012.

In a press interview with CID boss Karrow Kamara, it was noted that over 10 ex-combatants have been detained at the CID over an incident that saw the Defense Minister being assaulted, with the detained to be charged to court pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

According to Chief Superintendent Karrow Kamara the Sierra Leone Police has upgraded security apparatus nationwide due to a recent increase of lawlessness and indiscipline across the country.  He added that statements have been obtained from the arrested WIA officers and that the MOD must explain his own side of the story before the matter is charged to court.

Executive member of the WIA, Mohamed Kuyateh, told this press that they are currently lobbying with the government for their colleagues not to be charged to court as the incident was an unfortunate one.

Kuyateh said they are deeply sorry for that unfortunate incident and hopes their apology will help dilute the heavy heart of the Minister.

In a recent development the Accounts General Department has revealed that they are currently preparing payment for pension and benefits to these WIA.

According to close sources coming from the Accountant General Department it is revealed that payment will hopefully commence by the weekend.
