Traffic congestion – inhibits commercial activities
We are extremely worried by certain happenings within the country, especially in Freetown, but for whose efficiency and consistency the country would have been in a status far better than it currently is.
We are worried by the stiff traffic congestion that has married every four corners of Freetown, the capital city, where things are generally expected to move faster for the development of the entire country.
As microcosm of the country, the public would agree with us that if the head of a serpent remained static, the tail or its entire body cannot possibly move. For many people, the traffic congestion is a mere occurrence that does not soil any negative impact on our growth, but they are wrong. The traffic congestion is contributing to the slow movement of vehicles and of course the vehicles are not moved by miracles, but by people. Such people do not always travel alone – they do so with commuters and goods. This is something we don’t need to take for granted. Within the slow pace of our economy, the masses are robbed of their meager sums by other masses, because they want to reach destinations at a faster pace with time. Sadly enough, goods are often left in the mighty traffic. The amount of sum requested by bike “okada” riders for short distances is unreasonable. It is unfortunate because it does not reflect on our tax system, which should have helped develop our revenue.
Development that does not begin at the grassroots level is not one to brag about. We are not trying to curb the means of survival of others, but at any point in life, it is wise to face reality, if we are really serious with ourselves. The government needs to give urgent attention to improving our road networks not forgetting okada lanes and put in strict measures to replace the exorbitant amounts levied on helpless passengers.
