UNIDO’s Yumkella tapped to keynote Nigeria’s Investment and Business Summit

LONDON, 29 July 2012– Sierra Leonean born UNIDO Director General, Kandeh K. The event which will be hosted on the sidelines of the XXX Olympiads currently taking place in the city of London seeks to show case  the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the “World’s Most Vibrant Market.” It is scheduled to be held between July 30 and August 1 at the Dorchester Hotel in the Mayfair section of the English capital.

With a wealth of experience on providing leadership and strategic guidance on areas such as trade capacity building, poverty reduction, industrial development, Dr. Yumkella will also chair a panel discussion on “Transforming Nigeria’s Industrial Sector for Competitiveness.” The high level discussion will feature Olesegun Olutoyin Aganga, the Nigerian Minister of Trade and Investment, Chief Kola Jamodu, president of MAN and chairman of BN Plc and Mr. Ibikunle Amosun, governor of Ogun State.

Organized by the Bank of Industry and under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Investment, the summit is expected to bring together a large pool of participants consisting of diplomats, government representatives, members of the business community, representatives of international financial institutions, multilateral agencies and multinational organizations among others.

To pledge his government’s support of the summit, Nigeria’s president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will personally declare the summit open in an effort to attract investors and project his nation to the international community as one of the world’s best investment destinations. The summit is also an opportunity for potential investors to be linked to Nigerian entrepreneurs.

Director General Yumkella will also lead the team of foreign dignitaries; an impressive list that includes Stephen Jennings, CEO of Renaissance Capital and Jim O’Neil, Chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Yumkella is no stranger to hosting such high-level international summits. He is known to keep his audience spell-bound in the manner in which he articulates his message and discusses the continent’s problems while providing solutions on the way forward.

Following his responsibilities at the summit, Yumkella will travel to Kinshasa to deliver another keynote address at the Africa Caucus Meetings comprising of the continent’s finance ministers and central bank governors as they chart a new way of thinking about Africa’s agricultural productivity and manufacturing.

Dr. Mallam Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Co-ordinating Minister for Economy and Minister of Finance will depart the conference at the end of the first day for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
