GELD/CEDA female entrepreneur’s skills building training in Kenema

The Gender Equitable for Local Development (GELD) in partnership with Community Empowerment and Development Agency (CEDA) has commence a female entrepreneur skills building at the national pastoral center in Kenema.

In her chairperson opening remarks, the acting mayor of the Kenema City Council Madam Margaret Siaka said that the training is a very important one as it helps the women in the proper running of their business. She maintains that women are very important and that if giving the opportunity will do better in building up their homes and country as a whole.

Contributing, the national coordinator of Gender Equitable for Local Development (GELD) David Lahai said the purpose and objective of the training is to help build the capacity of women in the proper running of their business. He maintained that many of the women in business today are not progressive in their business actives because of the lack of technical know-how and that the three days training will help them increase their ability to build up a very good business for the benefit of not only their homes but the whole nations.

David Lahai reiterated that GELD or UNCDF cannot give people fish but rather teach people how to fish. And as a way to help mitigate, the GELD (UNCDF/UN Women /UNDP sponsored) program have supported a local partner, CEDA-Bo to organize a skills building training in view of the challenges women face in developing their merchandise, largely because they lack the basic rudiments to appropriately manage their businesses to progress to medium level. He said in most cases they even risk dwindling to naught because of poor business skills and other related drawback.

The chairman of the Kenema District Patrick Samu stated that all the projects are being implemented under both the city and District councils to see the efficiency of the GELD project. He said they as councils are giving their fullest supports to UN Women, and GELD to help women to be self reliance.

Patrick Samu encouraged the participants to take the training with all seriousness as it will help them in the running of their business and that at the end of training they women are expected to be successful in their business.
