SLPP’s Democratic Model is Unique…Says Hon Bernadette Lahai
Leading to the official launching ceremony of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) manifesto on June 17 this year, Honorable, Dr. Bernadette Lahai (in photo) has revealed to people of this country that her party is a model of unique democracy.
The Hon. Dr. Lahai, who also doubles as a member of the policy research for development committee of the opposition SLPP party made this pronouncement at the Sierra Leone Bank Complex, Kingtom during the launch of the manifesto development process on Tuesday July 17.
Dr. Lahai said the manifesto that is about to be officially launched as a policy statement of the party is the first of its kind marking the history of political ‘policy statements’ in Sierra Leone. She said manifestos are considered as a social contracts to the people of any nation and by all indication, it must reflect national values.
She rapped furthered that this important paper was adopted after consultative research was carried out chronicling the dreams and aspirations of the ordinary Sierra Leonean. She maintained that this new method bade adieu against the old adage of political slogan “business as usual”
She said their upcoming manifesto does not create any line of disparity with the political vision of their flag-bearer, Julius Maada Bio as many are tempted to raise eyebrows, pointing that the philosophy of the SLPP’s brand of democracy rests on the foundation of ‘one people one country’ conundrum.
She said it is unlike President Koroma’s Agenda of establishing the “National Conference for Transformational Development”, which has the picture of politics rather than nationalism. She said the SLPP manifesto captures the diversity of culture and tribal interests nationwide, and she maintained that their upcoming manifesto will stand the test of time.
