No medical care for recruits

Reports allege that recruits undergoing training at the Sierra Leone Police Training School (PTS) at Hastings in the outskirts of Freetown are not benefiting from medical facilities due to corruption.

The reports add that recruits who fall ill are only given Panadol that has resulted to them seeking medical attention elsewhere during their six months training period pointing out that what is even more worrisome is that the recruits are not allowed to visit their relatives to seek adequate medical attention.

Recently, it was learnt that a recruit fell ill of malaria and typhoid as diagnosed at the police clinic but that he was not administered with the proper treatment as he was told to purchase his own drugs at the clinic upfront or seek medical care elsewhere.

Information was also gathered that the food served to recruits is below standard that has resulted to most of them not eating it.
