Yoni celebrates minister’s UN appointment
Yonibana, July 6 (SLENA): The unexpected wind of positive change for both Health and Sanitation Minister, Zainab Hawa Bangura and the country on the announcement of her recent appointment in the UN did not leave out the people of Yoni Chiefdom and the entire Tonkolili district in celebration of her new appointment.
The minister was triumphantly welcomed on her arrival at Masiaka town with hundreds of party loyalists, friends and relatives in their colourful attires, including parliamentarians, paramount chiefs, youths and elders of the Tonkolili district, dancing and singing traditional songs in praise of Madam Zainab Bangura along the main highway of Masiaka.
The towns and villages, Rokimbe, Malal, Miles 88 and 91, and other neighbouring towns were all seen with “ashorbis”, T-Shirts with the inscription “Friends of Zainab”.
Commenting on her success stories, Ya Marie, an elderly woman described Madam Zainab as a God-fearing person, respectful, industrious and a role model for a growing society like Sierra Leone.
Addressing the Mile 91 community at the Mile 91Round About, Mrs. Bangura encouraged her people to place premium on the education of the girl child, noting that educating a woman means building a structure for growth and development in society.
She applauded the gesture from the Tonkolili people and reminded them about their commitment to the President and the APC Party ahead of this year’s general election and urged her people to participate in the ongoing NEC voter exhibition exercise.
Mrs. Bangura briefed her audience about her new appointment and explained what her Terms of Reference would look like, adding that whilst in the UN she would strive to ensure the flag of Sierra Leone is lifted sky high.
Meanwhile, it is worthy to note that Mrs. Bangura is the First African Woman appointed to that enviable position. She has said that she would resourcefully use her expertise to assist Sierra Leone in her development programmes ahead of the Agenda for Prosperity.
