Health Minister attends Summit on Health Care Reform in London

Freetown July 6 (SLENA): Health and Sanitation Minister, Haja Zainab Hawa Bangura has been invited by British Prime Minister, David Cameron to the prestigious International Summit on Health Care Reform taking place in London.

Mrs. Bangura is expected to join about 250 ministers, senior officials, business and other health leaders from over twenty different countries and will be speaking at the Global Health Policy Summit co-hosted by Lord Grem of Hurstpierpoint, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment and Professor Lord Darzi of Denham, UK Business Ambassador for Life Sciences on August 1, 2012 to show case Sierra Leone and its success stories.

This summit which has been described as the most high-powered meetings on the subject of health policy and innovation ever, is being developed in recognition of the shared challenges in health policy and delivery including the rise of non-communicable diseases, sustainable health care financing and ageing societies.

Responding to the invitation presented by the Deputy British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Michael Shearer, the minister described the gesture as an invitation to both the Government of Sierra Leone and the country, expressing her willingness and desire to participate, and tell the world the success stories of the leadership of President Koroma with support from health development partners and his government.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Bangura, as part of the gesture, has also been invited to witness the Olympic Games and Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
