“Usu Boie has deflated SLPP”- APC Asia Branch Chairman
The home coming event of Usu Boie Kamara into the fold of the All People’s Congress party is an indication of his patriotism, dedication and commitment to Sierra Leone’s development and it also shows that Usu Boie has deflated SLPP”, literally reducing it to just a one man’s party at the moment, left in the hands of the flag bearer, so says Lamin Turay, Chairman for the ruling All People’s Congress branch in Asia, with headquarters in Beijing, China. He said, the decision by the political heavyweight to “come back home” shows that the APC, is indeed a party that is always ready to accommodate people who have the interest of Sierra Leone at heart and who are ready to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country. Turay spoke on Wednesday, 13th June, when he called this writer to make known the position of the APC Asia Branch, regarding Usu Boie’s decision to join hands with President Ernest Bai Koroma for the development of Sierra Leone.
Until few months ago, Usu Kamara was a key figure in the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party, a party in which he contested for the presidential flag bearer, ahead of the November elections, but had to leave after what he referred to as a total display of regionalism, tribalism and sectionalism in the operations of the SLPP.
During his declaration for the APC in Sierra Leone on the 9th of June, Usu Kamara informed the ruling party Executives, including its party Chairman and Leader President Koroma and supporters that he decided to join the ruling APC with a view of supporting President Koroma in his desire to make Sierra Leone a paradise. He used his declaration event to also condemn the opposition SLPP, for not following its philosophy of ONE COUNTRY, ONE PEOPLE. “We are not the ones saying it… they have demonstrated it all over the country for you all to see, so we cannot sit down quietly”, he said at the declaration, which attracted thousands of supporters from across the country.
Welcoming this development in Sierra Leone, the APC Asia Branch Chairman, Lamin Turay stated that since Sierra Leone is at a crossroad in her post war reconstruction and development efforts, it was timely that Usu Boie had to join hands with the APC “so as to give support to our Leader and Chairman, President Ernest Bai Koroma who is so well placed, determined and sincere in his dreams of making Sierra Leone what it should have looked like, years back.” Sierra Leone, he said should always be the first thing that people should think of, when it comes to making crucial decisions, and “this is what exactly Usu Boie Kamara has done. We are impressed with his move, it shows we have people who love the country, people who are ready to come to the APC fold for the good of Sierra Leone…”, he explained.
Speaking further, Lamin Turay said, the opposition party never knew the importance of Usu Boie Kamara, Ishmael Sengu Koroma and Kadie Johnson Cole and others who have been lampooned “for joining the train and vehicle of development driven by our President. They don’t know the importance of numbers in politics. For us in the APC, we know the coming of these people is good news for us, their coming is a manifestation of our successes as a ruling party in transforming the country into not just a works yard, but also in giving hope to children and lactating mothers that with the free health care, their health is a national concern for us.”, Turay said. According to the APC bigwig in China, all those who have come have demonstrated their love for Sierra Leone and “they will surely be part of the transforming that we are presently undertaking in Sierra Leone.”

Speaking further, Chairman Turay said, what has been happening in recent time, with key figures in the opposition “coming back to their home-the APC shows what lies ahead of us, in terms of our chances of winning the elections. We are sure of winning, we will not go for second round…President Koroma has worked so much that November is just to formalize the process of returning him to State House” According to Lamin Turay, even though they have worked so hard as a ruling party, “we will never relax, we will keep talking to our supporters at home and abroad to give their best to the party. For us in Asia, we know we do not only need to go and vote, but we need to also keep talking to our people across the country to overwhelmingly give their votes to President Koroma and the APC”
He assured, the elections will be peaceful free and fair and concluded by saying that “the coming of these gallant men and women from the SLPP into the APC, including hundreds of executive members across the country, coupled with the winning team we have had both in the presidency and his vice, we are sure of making inroads.”
Usu Boie Kamara is a business, mines engineer and politician. He was born raised in Freetown to prominent Mandingo parents and he grew up in Freetown in the Magazine Curt community. His recent defection to the APC is said to have sent a sense of political tsunami to the main opposition party. Also, it is believed that this latest action has added more impetus to the ruling party, which is believed to have got a formidable team as it is at the moment.
