Ancient cave discovered at Kossoh
Freetown, June 13 (SLENA) – A cave said to have housed the British Royal family during the Second World War has been discovered by residents of Kossoh Town, about eight miles east of the capital city, Freetown.
This was made known by the residents who claimed to have discovered the cave at the bottom of the hills while in search of water catchment for the construction of a dam.
The cave, the story goes, was constructed by the British Royal/Navy for the safety of the Royal family during the war, dating as far back as 1939.
Vice President Sam Sumana visited the entrance of the cave on Monday 11 June 2012 where the residents who have ventured into the cave said they found some items of interest like dilapidated carpets, long passages and apartments that resembled living rooms.
The residents including the Headman have since called on the government to take interest in the cave through the Tourism Ministry to draw the attention of the world to such an attractive monument.
