Moves by UBK, YDK and SIK to join EBK welcomed in Saudi
The ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party received yet another boost last Saturday, 9th June, 2012 as more members of the opposition in the country officially declared for the APC to work with President Ernest Bai Koroma to move the country forward.
Many Sierra Leoneans in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States say the moves by Usman Boie Kamara (UBK), a former Presidential flag bearer-aspirant of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Yayah Deen Kamara (YDK), Chairman of the Council of Imams, Sengu Ishamael Koroma (SIK), a retired US Major and former Presidential contestant under the SLPP and tens of thousands of their supporters to join their brother, Ernest Bai Koroma (EBK) in moving the country forward is “a step in the right direction and very timely.”
Chairman of the APC Saudi Arabia Chapter, Sorie Ibrahim Kanu says their moves are very timely because Sierra Leone is now witnessing tremendous transformations in all facets of life. “And I am sure these gentlemen should not be left out in these transformation processes,” Kanu pointed out.
On behalf of his executive, Kanu commended them for taking the right step, adding that they will not regret joining the party which he said is committed to the positive transformation of the entire country.
After the ceremony over the weekend, I had brief telephone interviews with two of the defectors, Usu Boie Kamara and Yayah Deen Kamara. Both men told me that their decision to join the APC was as a result of the outstanding performance of the President Koroma since he assumed office in 2007.
They also spoke of their readiness to work for the realization of the President’s second term ambition to enable him build on his administration’s excellent achievements.
They said President Koroma deserves another mandate to rule the country as he had proved to be a leader of all Sierra Leoneans.
Describing the ceremony, a member of the State House Press Corps who witnessed the ceremony, Jarrah Kawusu-Konteh, says “the home-coming ceremony itself was evidently a trail blazer amidst a crowd that was incontestably very large in size as well as pageantry in their excitement. The entire city was awash with red and white, the APC’s official colours.”
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the APC, Victor Bockarie Foh, over the weekend announced that 576 executive members of the opposition SLPP all over the country have so far resigned.
