Free medical care and abandoned babies

It is obvious that some women are now fond of the habit of giving birth to babies and dumping them with reckless abandon attitudes. Most of these cases are attributed to the numerous faithless reasons given by these mothers with financial strings tied to such explanations. You will only acknowledge this if you are privileged to come in contact with one of them.

At times like this, in the history of our nation when H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma`s Free Medical Care for under five children and suckling mothers materialized we little imagine that mothers would ever exist in this country with such heartless attitudes.

But still, even with the Free Medical Care in action, impunity still reigns to the highest degree as this weekend, we saw another case of an abandoned baby at the bottom of Tengbeh Town Bridge; apparently dead, which bystanders say it was approximately five months old.

Normally these mothers could not be identified in our society; only on exceptional cases their identities are revealed.

Years back, like in the nineteen-eighties there was a peculiar case of a child that was abandoned at a veranda at Berwick Street Freetown who was later brought up by that family and turn out to be very clever and enterprising at his very early age and by the time he was eighteen years old he was a force to reckon with in terms of academic pursuit and otherwise.

Not knowing the existence of a mother who has been residing in the same community came to light when this boy became twenty years old. As this woman could not suppress her feelings anymore after twenty years, she walked up to the foster parents and declared her callous and secret actions, leaving people in wonder and amazement at her heartless heart, but to cut a long story short she was denied by her son even though his foster-parents tried to talk him into accepting his mother. Shortly she died as a result of high blood pressure (HBP) and the boy never attended her funeral.

The act of abandoning babies should be a thing of the past as the free medical care is here to help mothers take care of their babies at the very early and critical stages.

Remember that the biggest man you ever seen was just a baby and as the young grows, it could be ascertained that in many instances of family histories, children grow up to be bread winners for their entire family and also changing the lives of their parents from rags to riches. In this regard throwing your children away as we saw last weekend means you are throwing away your blessings.

The people may not see or have the slightest knowledge of your wicked action to humanity especially to a child but remember that the almighty God knows every move you make and you will surely give account to the creator one day at will.
