London Mining Makes Donations to Schools and Clinics

At a handing over ceremony held earlier this month at Our Lady of Guadalupe Secondary School in Lunsar, Port Loko, London Mining announced donations of 100 mattresses and 30 beds to schools and health centres in the town, and to victims of the recent fire disaster in Rolal Village in the Marampa Chiefdom.

“As part of our social investment policy we will continue to assist schools in our concession area”, London Mining’s Social Investment Supervisor, Ann-Marie Bassie, told students and teachers, adding that the items were donated to the school in order to augment the efforts of the school authority, and the government, in the provision of better furniture facilities for pupils at the boarding home.

Sister Elisa Padilla, Principal of Guadalupe Secondary School, thanked the company for the kind gesture and called on the students to use the donated items wisely.

London Mining also held donation ceremonies at the Mabesseneh Catholic Hospital and the Lunsar and Magbil health centres. In an address at the Mabesseneh Nursing Home, Desmond Doherty, London Mining’s Community Relations Manager, reiterated the company’s commitment to education and health and assured the student nurses that similar donations will be made in the future.

  • London mining has to do more to promote corporate social responsibility in Marampa Chiefdom. The Chiefdom is in a complete dilapidated state and they are under moral obligation to transform the chiefdom.
The items donated to various stakeholders is a good start, but they should have done more to the Chiefdom that they are generating massive revenue for their company. The Chiefdom, citizens at home an abroad are watching closely the activities of London Mining.
