Kudos President Koroma for the Police Gesture!
Our joy adds to that of the Sierra Leone Police in thanking the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who after a thorough consideration, thought it fit to give a boost on the working condition of members of the Police Force of Sierra Leone.
Upon making the announcement that a bag of rice is being added to the police’s take home package, in the solemn morning of Friday May 25 some of us who know the constraints members of the Sierra Leone Police force are going through burst a sign of relief in appreciation of the fact that President is compassionate.
Besides, the President actually held the occasion to handover keys of the 52 vehicles the Government procured to enhance the Police with mobile logistics for them to be able to keep the country’s security level water-tight.
Sierra Express is impressed with such morale boosting effort by the president especially at a time when the country is preparing to go into yet other crucial general elections in November.
We have been craving to see a police that is well equipped and motivated, irrespective of the fact that they are hunted with the adage of “Give the Police a big fat salary and motivation and get them lazy and laid back because work no work they are having big fat salaries; and starve the police that you allow them to sleep in corruption and get busy in founding means to line their pockets.
With all certainties our brothers and sisters moved by the passion to serve the state as police personnel and officials in that capacity are doing such sacred duties working on human and socio-economic risk to ensure sanity in our society.
No worth of money is enough to appease their risks and risk factors, what suits them only is motivation and morale boosting in the order the president has done it.
The president acted in his human face value devoid of politics considering the fact that security as a component covers every aspect of society and does not discriminate members of the various political organs, tribe, religion, age, sex, creed, region and section etc.
Every body has value over his or her life, but does not place price tag value on it which members of the force willingly lay for no price clause in the willingness to serve by shedding blood for our mother land.
If you ask me, they deserve more than they already have, but thank God our president is good.
Many a time, I have this stereotype of a question as to why members of the Sierra Leone police force are thinner and lanky as compare to Ghana and other African police force, my answer seemed rhetoric. The other day I had an encounter with a certain police Sergeant in one of the local restaurants, I was inquisitive a bit, but bold enough to ask why our police in such situation of almost always begging their fairs on returning back home from work and better still we still always meet equally, competing at the local restaurants, the sergeant said look my brother, we have passion to serve this country with the right mind and determination, but the resources are not there to keep us fit into our situation. –The option is ‘be patient with the little we have until we have what we want’. I was impressed with the caliber of answer as a response I got from him. It means even though the country is faced with economic harsh realities, it still does not lose the right to have and own its police force; and that no matter what they are patriotically ready to serve their mother land.
Sierra Leoneans are witnesses to the fact that armed robberies are on the increase more upon the insult that the rainy season is here –a period wherein thieving is done with much pleasure. The police are the only one there for all of us. On this backdrop Sierra Express joins the Police with open hands to celebrate their new found joy or improved working condition and we say thanks to the President for such a laudable gesture.
We hope the Police would handle the new fifty two vehicles well with care and be able to put them into their rightful uses and for their intended purposes.
This wish is made in good faith to alert the Police as well that inasmuch as we are happy for them receiving such gesture, it would not deter us from publishing any suspecting misuse of the vehicles in question.
