Traders cry over price control
Traders in Freetown are crying for the government to put mechanisms in place that will stir the price hiking menace in the country.
In an exclusive interview with some of the traders at Sani Abacha Street in Freetown they said prices of basic commodities such as rice, cooking ingredients, cosmetics, and locally produced items have skyrocketed within the last couple of months.
They further pointed out that, the opposition are doing nothing to ameliorate the issue they instead resort at critiquing the country’s economic problems which they know are consuming the life standards of the masses everyday.
They noted that, other countries have strategies with which they are cushioning the upsurge of the now acclaimed global crunch thereby stabilizing their economy to meet the local marketing trend.
Notwithstanding the successes of other African countries’ economies, Sierra Leone still plugs in unexplained hardship allowing prices of basic commodities to trek up unchecked.
The traders maintain that almost 80% of homes in Freetown are not able to cater for a day’s meal let alone than the traditional three meals per day.
