The country is at yoke of security risks
The country’s porous nature is cause for alarm. Security, with all due respect to the forces, is volatile as we continue to see a rise in crime.
The proliferation of armed banditry, cultism, and fraternity groups are a thing for major concerns as we are fast approaching the November polls.
Following recent development of the emergence of certain members of the Lebanese community in Sierra Leone constituting and mobilizing resources to sponsor the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, it gives rise to fear, especially when the issue is militating around terrorism – which is a global scourge.
Nonetheless, terrorism is a new movement in Africa, a breed seemingly planted by sectarian movements and Islam propagandists. The concept of terrorism, without guess is being coined with Islam, which makes it a hard nut to crack.
These strings of unfortunate developments are currently rearing their ugly heads in Nigeria, where militants of the Boko-Haram movement are said to have been receiving arms and financial support from Al-Qaeda network supporting groups.
These parameters could be likened to our situation in Sierra Leone as the eleven years civil war taught us tales of stories that members of the Revolutionary United Front movement were actually trained in Libya.
We keep seeing a similar position recently, when dozens of youths of this country exported themselves to Iraq in search of menial jobs. The war in Iraq is still endearing its multiplier effects within the country (Iraq).
Beggars have no choice – implying in a sense that survival could lead those young folks into doing whatever they might be influenced into; and at the end of it all, they shall come home someday.
We recently heard about the insurgence of terrorism, which consumed Mali’s democracy, when remnants of the late Colonel Muamar Gaddafi’s Touareg armed gangs mercenaries popped back home to unleash mayhem and now we are talking about a coup d’état in that country.
The government of Sierra Leone should be sensitive to this and try to nip in the bud some of the freedom and liberties attracted to foreign business persons in the names of investors or doing business.
