President Koroma demonstrates a progressive leadership

Success is how one measures it, our elders say. Though many doubting Thomases in the opposing house will say the President is cynical in articulating state issues in the order of direction expected of him, yet as a true patriot, I equate my judgment by comparing governance to performance, especially when we draw a leaf from the past.

Evaluating the successes and shortcomings of our leaders in this country, President Koroma is known to be a politician who understands the crucibles of the ordinary man and endears to upturn the scourge of their weakness into strength.

The initiatives of President Koroma are appealing to products like us who were born in the 1980/90’s and who to say the truth constitute the bulk of the voting population in the country as it stands at the moment.

Many can attest that the president’s development campaign is sheltered nationwide. On assuming power President Koroma inherited a country that at worst could be described as the darkest in terms of electricity supply in the world.

He transformed such darkness into glimmers of light and stands at almost uninterrupted electricity supply in the main capital city, Freetown.

In his 2007 manifesto, he did promise that he was going to open the gates towards the country’s globalization trends by joining forces with bilateral trade links through the Economic Partnership Agreement.

In 2009 His Excellency took the bold step to showcase Sierra Leone in the London Investment and Trade forum to advertise the galore of opportunities existing in Sierra Leone for doing business. No doubt that the country was rated top among the countries that are safe to do business in the doing business international business report.

His Excellency changed such tides with the enactment of laws that are enhancing a frenzied business atmosphere that is able to provide the necessary tools for making business registration a possible reality.

Today our nation stands as a proud benefactor of several multi million dollar investments and other home grown investments.

Coming to the issue of Agriculture, the new approach by Government to move farming from subsistence farming to mechanized farming is a show to build a sustainable society that will in the future help feed its people and provide employment facilities for those unemployed.

From a standpoint of truth and patriotism, the leadership needs to sustain its projects and transform those areas where they are facing serious challenges, especially the 17% bottle neck inflation rate that is killing the ordinary Sierra Leonean each day that passes by; also a critical look at some of the mining agreements the country has signed need looking into as many of the existing ones do not cater for the greater good of our society.
