Sierra Leone’s Red Cross interacts with journalists
The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society on Friday April 20th held a day-long workshop for media practitioners focusing on the media’s role of contribution to help shape a better understanding on humanitarian issues in Sierra Leone.
The workshop was hosted at the YMCA Hall, Brookfields, Freetown. The objective of the workshop was geared towards strengthening knowledge of journalists on the operations of the Red Cross and its mandate regarding their humanitarian considerations, acknowledged by the international community.
In his statement, the Deputy Secretary General Mohamed S Mansaray said the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society is not anticipating violence in the upcoming November elections.
He encouraged the media to publish stories on humanitarian and disaster related issues and showcase the role of society in all of these.
Coordinator of Disaster Management and Control, Constant Kargbo said the society has a disaster respond mechanism to respond to any disaster. He said the lateness in receiving information on disaster is among the major constrains the responds teams are facing.
