Pa Alimamy, a Traditional Chief at Cline Town said the African Human Rights Education Project has increased the knowledge and understanding of his community people at Cline town.

He said men of Cline town were used to battering their wives but that has been reduced drastically as a result of the mass sensitization that Amnesty Group is using through drama on domestic violence.

Desmond Lewis, project participant said as a professional Human Rights Theatre Group realizing the high level of illiteracy in Sierra Leone they are using theatre as an adequate tool to spread knowledge and understanding about Human Rights.

Through the support of UK aid for the past years, he said they have been organizing meetings, workshops, theatre performances, focus group discussions in six operational communities in the Western Areas urban and have led community members to find community solutions to human rights issues they are faced with.

Desmond Lewis said the group has been raising awareness on domestic violence especially the aspect that has to do with wife battering which came prominent in the participatory session at the inception of the project.

Amnesty International Artist Group is one among the fifteen Africa Human Rights Education (AHRE) theatres that has made credible inroads in terms of strengthening knowledge and understanding of people on human rights issues in the sub-region.
