Kao Denero and LAJ end Hip Hop rivalry
The Office of the Chief of Staff and the Parliamentary Oversight for Youth Employment and Sports peace process between TBS International and Original TBS that had been in conflict for over 15 years came to an end with both clubs deciding to operate as an NGO and organized this year’s East Vs West concert under the new name of TBS Square.
Say no to violence, was the theme of this year’s annual East vs West concert at the National Stadium on the 9th April 2012 with music artists from both areas competing for a cup and a prize of 100 million Leones. Famous, Wahid Cee Jay, 441, pepuls, Lady Aminata and more represented the West whilst Succulent Heaven Jay, YOK 7, Willie J, Hyden Adama and more represented the East.
However, this “say no to violence” concert had an unexpected effect on Sierra Leone’s biggest rivalry – Kao Denero of Black Leo and LAJ of Red Flag Movement agreed to stop the long standing on and off feud. The two artists decided to say no to violence by reading statements that gave thanks to His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for his support to artists and asked that the over 30,000 people in attendance should give him a second chance.
Also special thanks were given to Dr. Kaifala Marah and the organizers for their laudable peace initiative.
His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma was unavoidably absent but sent Hon Alpha Khan, Minister of Political and Public Affairs to give a statement. He said that TBS Square has made history by making peace between themselves and transforming into an NGO and then for organizing such an historic event that led to the peace between Kao Denero and LAJ. He said politicians should also try to make peace among themselves and continue to work with TBS Square to consolidate the peace and to organize events in the future.
Also in attendance was Hon. Tunde Lewally, Hon. Nuru Deen-Sankoh, Councillor Aruna etc.
The concert came to an end at 6am on the 10th of April 2012 with the Chief Judge announcing the results.
