Bio breaks silence over passport saga
Presidential nominee of the opposition party, Sierra Leone People’s Party, Julius Maada Bio, has cleared that the passport deal which speaks much about him, his former boss Strasser and then Secretary of State Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abass Bundu was part of an extensive project initiated by former president Joseph Saidu Momoh.
He said the regime used the proceeds to run the affairs of the country as the coffers were dried up by the then administration of Joseph Saidu Momoh. He said when they assumed office the country was reeling under an economic embargo. He said the only means by which they were able to run their administration was through the selling of the country’s passport to foreign nationals.
Bio revealed that the issue of him influencing the arms deals to his cousin Steve Bio was unfounded, and that Steve was awarded the contract because his proposal appeared to be the most reasonable bid amongst the other bidders.
He denied having any account in Ghana used for his clandestine activities and that the Canaries off shore account was used by him under the auspices of his cousin Steve Bio for payment of cash into the account using his name (Maada), he also pointed out that many can attest to the fact that Steve is an international business tycoon, he furthered his comment by challenging the fact that he has not seen or touched any document that points towards him as a criminal as many journalists are alleging.
