Goderich to Host Boxing Competition

Goderich Community in the West of the capital on 28th November 2009 announced that it will host a youth championship boxing competition which will be used to showcase the talents of youths in boxing and to help them maintain peaceful and healthy co-existence amongst.

In an interview with Goderich community ward (331) councilor, Ibrahim Kabba Alias Small Borbor Sierra Express Media learnt that the competition will bring all youths together in his constituency in the form of entertainment and helping them to co-exist.

The Councilor said the preliminary of the competition which has already started at Tombo on the 25th November 2009 is an initiative which he as councilor “brought to the community as boxing and its role it plays as a sporting activity is actually not recognized in some parts of the country,” he said. “I see it necessary to introduce the sport in my ward, making it a special activity that many young youths can develop an interest in and discover their talents. The idea he said is bound to be spread all over the country adding that  from the day the competition started lot of youths have come on board voluntarily and involving themselves actively into the competition.

The Councilor further said, the competition is going to continue till 26th December 2009, where the final will take place at Victoria Park in Central Freetown and according to him Ministers and other stakeholders from different departments in government will patronize the occasion as a way of adding steam the already growing success of the idea.

In his statement, the Councilor explained that he was motivated morally and financially by the Director of Mines Alhaji B. Kamara, as he is the key sponsor of the programme. “Ever since in the history of Goderich and Tombo community, this is the first time such an activity has staged in patronage of the community youth.

Speaking, Director of Mines Alhaji B. Kamara said sporting is his hobby and he has once been the Chairman for Eastern Lion Football club and not withstanding that he had supported many sporting activities national and internationally. The Director admonished talked of the seriousness of the Councilor explaining that some months back; the Councilor met him and requested assistance in connection with the boxing competition and that as a sport lover he immediately gave his support to him and the entire community of youths.

Goderich Youth’s Chairman, Amara Bangura said “this is a big opportunity for us that the Councilor could organize such a competition wherein the talents of the youths could be showcased in boxing. Others who will are involved in the competition are the Military, Prisons, Tombo and Godrich community.

The youth chairman further called on the cooperation of the youth is support of the programme adding that some might have their break through in discovering their talents in boxing.
