Non Violence and Awareness Raising Gala commences today
A Non Violence and Awareness Raising Gala competition will kick off today at the Grassfield playing field, Lumley, west of the capital Freetown.
Eight teams grouped into two groups will battle for the sum of Le4 million cash prize, while the runners up will settle for the sum of Le 2 million. The best behaved team will pocket the sum of Le500,000.
Group A comprised of Grassfield, Wilberforce, Brookfields and Hill Station communities, while Group B has Mafa, Aberdeen, Murray Town and Coal Farm.
In today’s kick off match Grassfield will engage Wilberforce, while Mafa will battle against Aberdeen on Thursday April 12. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the semi finals slated for April 24 and 25. The grand final will play on Friday April 27.
The competition is co-sponsored by John B. Tucker and Thomas Daddy Brima.
According to them they are organizing this competition to sensitize the youths on how to refrain from violence as politicians are always in the habit of misleading the youths to unleash violence and later dump them.
Before the commencement of the gala, all participating teams have been given the sum of Le100,000 each. The sponsors assured all clubs of adequate security presence throughout the competition.
