The Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, Mr. Leeroy Wilfred Kabs-Kanu, who also coordinates the Sierra Leone government media in North America, and Press Attaché and Head of the Information and Public Affairs Unit of  the Sierra Leone Embassy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Jalloh, last week had a fruitful meeting at Mr. Kanu’s residence in Franklin Township, Somerset in New Jersey. Mr. Jalloh was accompanied to New Jersey by  Mr. Sulaiman Ibrahim, former France 24 Correspondent, New York. (Photo: l-r Alhaji Jalloh – Sierra Leone IA to Saudi Arabia , Kabbs Kanu – Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, and Sulaiman Ibrahim – former France 24 Correspondent, New York)

The two members of the Presidential Press Corps discussed matters of supreme interest to the Sierra Leone Government and the nation, especially how to accentuate the government’s media outreach to the international world. The two government media gurus stressed the increasing need for President Ernest Koroma’s AGENDA FOR CHANGE ,  his transformational program  and infrastructural and socio-economic and political developments to be given the widest possible coverage in the international media.

Both journalists and diplomats praised President Ernest Koroma for the extensive socio-economic and political developments he has undertaken in Sierra Leone. The two men expressed their delight and satisfaction with the fact that President Koroma has fulfilled his 2007 campaign promises to the Sierra Leonean people.

Alhaji Jalloh said that the King of Saudi Arabia has profound respect for President Koroma whom he considers as one of Africa’s most outstanding leaders. The Saudi King was highly impressed with President Koroma during last year’s Hajj when the Sierra Leonean Head of State called him personally to appeal to him to use his royal offices to have the International Airport at Jeddah reopened to allow hundreds of Sierra Leonean pilgrims who had been late due to flight scheduling problems to enter the holy land and perform the Hajj.

Mr. Jalloh said that usually once the deadline for arrival had expired and the airport closed for the Hajj, that was the end of the matter. However , the Saudi King was highly impressed by the concern that President Koroma, a christian, demonstrated for the muslim pilgrims and he asked that the Sierra Leonean Leader’s request be granted, and the airport was reopened just for the pilgrims from Sierra Leone to enter.

Mr. Jalloh also intimated that many Arab countries are impressed by the developments taking place in Sierra Leone under President Koroma and there is an influx of arab tourists and businessmen seeking visas to go to Sierra Leone to visit or to prospect for investment opportunities.

Mr. Kanu discussed with Alhaji Jalloh and Mr. Ibrahim recent Peacebuilding Sierra Leone Configuration meetings at the UN where diplomats and stakeholders commended President Koroma for his excellent leadership, respect for fundamental human rights and steps taken so far to make sure that the November elections are free, fair and credible. He said that President Koroma enjoys tremendous respect and goodwill from UN diplomats and stakeholders because of his progressive leadership.
