SLPP Councilor’s inauguration postponed

The inauguration ceremony of Councilor Mohamed Kanu-Mansaray of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) that was supposed to be held last week Friday has been postponed to now take place later this month on March 31st.

Mohamed Kanu-Mansaray is the councilor elect for ward 369, Constituency 106, an area covering Fourah Bay community and the Mountain District in the east part of Freetown.

Reasons for the postponement of his inauguration, according to him, is based on the fact that the city council coffers have dried up, an excuse he said the Acting Mayor, Gibril Kanu advanced to him.

He said workers of the council have gone for months without salaries and that until something is done about their simmering situation his inauguration will stand still.

Councilor Mohamed Kanu Mansaray expressed disappointment over the late notice for postponement of his inauguration and said the whole event is being taken aback as food stuff he has put aside for the occasion is going to perish.

In an interview with the National Chairman and Leader of the Opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party, John Oponjo Benjamin, he expressed disappointment over the postponement and said it thus indicted the Freetown City Council in a big way.

Councilor Mohamed Kanu Mansaray won the bye Election for ward 369 in Constituency 106, January 14, this year following the death of Ade Lewally of the All People’s Congress.

When contacted via telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the Freetown City Council, Cyril Mattia, said he would find time to respond to the issue as such facts are not available with him.
