Sierra Leone Mayor’s case – $210,000 spent on Morgan Heritage concert
A witness in a corruption trial against the suspended Mayor of Freetown (in photo) and others has told the High Court that a sum totaling US$210,000 was lavishly expended by management of Freetown City Council to organize the Morgan Heritage concert.
An investigating officer attached to Intelligence Unit at the Anti Corruption Commission, Maada Mokieu Konneh in his testimony in court said he was assigned to investigate corruption allegations against Mayor George Herbert Williams and others.
His findings proved however that money totaling US$210,000 was misused by the accused – then active Freetown City Council officials – to organize the 28th and 29th December 2011 Morgan Heritage concert at the main bowl of the National Stadium in Freetown.
The witness who was tagged as PW3 said the concert was purely under the supervision of the 1st accused Herbert George Williams and eight (8) others.
That the Morgan Heritage group was paid US$130,000 to perform live concerts for two days – 28 and 29 December respectively.
A sum amounting to US$40,000 was paid for the rigged musical set and US$3,000 for hotel fee.
He said however that he was unable to prove the actual amount paid for the use of the National Stadium main bowl, but maintained an amount was given stadium management.
PW3 furthered that after the concert when he first met the 1st accused, Herbert George Williams, to request him explain in writing how money used for the concert was spent, he gets not from him, but that they will have to purchase buses for the municipality.
“I have got nothing much from management of Freetown City Council,” PW3 said.

11th August 2012US$ 210,000 spent on a two day waste of time and money on some second rate reggae band from overseas..This is further proof of the deeply engrained inferiority complex some of our people in authourity suffer from.I personally beleive it was just another corrupt plan to steal fron our people.
Think how many hungry and sick children could be helped with such a sum of money in sierra leone..At the same time little children break rocks for a daily pittance in this our country.
