AML restores life to Bendugu
Recuperating Paramount Chief Alimamy Kulio Jalloh II of Samaia Bendugu, Tonkolili district, who returned home from the United States following a successful one-year-long major surgery at the Washington DC Memorial Hospital, said his wellbeing was that of his people.
“I am particularly grateful to African Minerals (SL) Limited for bringing life back to my people,” the aging chief told hundreds of his people who thronged the now wide and graded road, some two miles leading to the chiefdom headquarter town of Bendugu, to receive their father and leader.
Exactly one year ago the chiefdom authorities approached AML through its corporate portfolio to explore the possibility of providing the badly needed medication for the flagging but courageous chief Kulio Jalloh II. Given the exigency of the situation, the company’s Logistics Manager Musa Alie Bangura immediately took it up with management and was eventually approved.
An initial cash box of US$15,000 was provided plus two round trip air tickets for the ailing chief and his caretaker daughter Musu Kura Jalloh to the United States of America. A follow-up gap of US$5,000 was placed in to offset other critical emerging costs.
Before he symbolically handed over the chief back to his people in the presence of the regent chief, his younger brother Chief Musa Jalloh, the District Officer Simeon Peter Koroma, Member of Parliament honourable Alie Sankoh and other chiefdom authorities during a colourful ceremony in Bendugu, AML’s Musa Bangura said his company feel fulfilled to have brought joy to a community where they operate.
He called for unity and disclosed that the chiefdom was blessed with a leadership that they should trust and respect. He particularly thanked chief Musa Jalloh who acted when his elder brother sought medical treatment abroad.
The Logistics Manager noted that the support provided for the chief was indicative of his company’s fair commitment to helping all communities in their areas of operations, a trend he said would continue.
He, however, addressed the concerns of youth unemployment, assured them of jobs as operations progress, but encouraged all to support their children in school so that they would be fit for leadership roles with African Minerals which has a lifespan of between sixty to ninety years.
