Big loss… SLPP chairlady dies
The appointment of Dr. Kadi Sesay as running mate to Brigadier (Rtd) Maada Bio apparently coincided with the death of the SLPP Chairlady for Freetown Central (Constituency 106), Mrs. Isatu Jalloh.
The popular politician and business woman passed away at the Connaught Hospital where she had been admitted for diabetes.
Many have attributed the successes of the SLPP in Constituency 106 during the 1996 and 2002 elections to the mobilizing powers of Isatu Jalloh, fondly called Kabaya.
She was the founding member of a group called CAMPAIGNERS which was formed in Central I to support the SLPP in the 2002 elections.
It was as a result of the campaign strategies of the forenamed group that the former public relations officer of SLPP, Victor Raider later referred to them as ‘campaigners without borders.’
She was active in community development projects in her constituency. She however fell ill in 2006 and was unable to mobilize support for her party in the 2007 elections as at then she was suffering from a stroke.
It is reported that she died on the night of Friday 11th at the Connaught Hospital hours after Maada Bio announced the appointment of Dr. Kadi Sesay as running mate.
Many people say that the happiness of Kadi Sesay’s appointment overshadowed the death of Mrs. Isatu Jalloh (aka Kabaya).
