Update: Salone soldier killed in Sudan/Darfur

A Corporal of the Republic of Sierra Leone Army serving as United Nations peace keeper in Darfur/Sudan Sunday 6th was ambushed and killed while on routine patrol duty around Nyala town.

SLA-L/Cpl 1817 9609 Ahmed Thomas died owing to gunshots from the attackers.

Two of his colleagues SLA- L/Cpl 18177635 John Tamba and SLA-L/Cpl 18178157 Marco Sesay sustained gunshot wounds while in action.

THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE REGRETS TO ANNOUNCE THAT TROOPS SERVING WITH THE HYBRID UNITED NATIONS AFRICAN UNION MISSION IN DARFUR, SUDAN (UNAMID), WHILST ON ROUTINE PATROL ON SUNDAY, 06 NOVEMBER 2011 WERE AMBUSHED. RSLAF 18179609 LANCE CORPORAL AHMED THOMAS WAS KILLED IN ACTION WHILST RSLAF 18177635 LANCE CORPORAL JOHN TAMBA AND 18178157 LANCE CORPORAL MARCO SESAY WERE WOUNDED IN ACTION.

A SUSPECT HAS BEEN ARRESTED WHO IS BEING INTERROGATED BY THE JOINT GOVERNMENT OF SUDAN POLICE AND UNAMID MILITARY POLICE TEAM.

THE WOUNDED ARE RESPONDING TO TREATMENT AT THE PAKINSTANI LEVEL THREE HOSPITAL IN NYALA, SUDAN. THE FAMILIES OF THE AFFECTED PERSONNEL HAVE BEEN INFORMED ACCORDINGLY.
