Kudos: Koidu Holdings sponsor football in Kono & Tongoh
In its bid meeting corporate social tasks, Koidu Holdings Limited Saturday 5th presented football kits to two provincial teams – Diamond Stars of Kono District, and Gem Stars of Tongoh respectively.
Making the donation, the Communication Officer, Ibrahim Sorie said his company is interested in the promotion of football in the country.
He said as part of his company’s drive in contributing to national development, Koidu Holdings will take full responsibility for the teams forenamed football teams.
“We are constructing houses for the players and coaches. As I talk the work is in progress and will be completed in six weeks time.” Sorie said.
“The houses will be well furnished. There is also an entertainment centre that is under construction for the players.”
“Koidu Holdings,” he continued, “has signed 14 players for Diamond Stars for a sum totaling Le 137,000,000 (one hundred and thirty seven million leones).”
Adding, “A two years contract had been signed between Koidu Holdings and respective coaches of the two teams.”
That salaries for the players have been negotiated, and Koidu Holdings is hopeful of registering 30 players for the teams.
Acting President Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), J. S. Kelfala, in his statement said Koidu Holdings’ gesture is record breaking for the people of Kono and Tongoh respectively.
He thanked the people of Kono for gratefully partnering with Koidu Holdings.
He said however that it is a big challenge to other companies operating in Kono District and Tongoh.
Honourable Francis Konduwa who represents a constituency in Tongoh town said it is the first time in the history inSierra Leone to see a diamond company render sponsorship to football teams.
He said Koidu Holdings in indeed not an imitating company, but rather one that create ideas.
“I was worried for the Tongoh football team,” Hon. Konduwa said. “But thank God for Koidu Holdings, that has rescued the Gem Stars football club.”
A match between Gem Stars and Diamond Stars was played, but the latter won by 2-1.
In an another engagement, it was disclosed that Koidu Holdings is constructing a new town called Kimbado for affected property owners and will be completed by the end of this month.
The Construction Foreman, Bradley Mackenzie took journalists on a conducted tour of the town under construction where he explained why the houses were built.

The Communications Officer Ibrahim Sorie assured that seven hundred (700) more houses have to be constructed immediately after the first set in Kimbado Town.
