The Airtel Rising Stars football clinic started off in grand style as former Manchester United great, Bryan Robson kick-started the Manchester United football clinic at Dar es Salaam beach front Karembezi Arena. Bryan Robson stated his belief that Airtel and Manchester United have chosen the right path to success in working and helping African youngsters to achieve their dreams in the future.

The former Manchester United star kicked off the Tanzania football clinic

“I am happy that the Airtel Rising Stars programme plans to benefit young soccer players less than 17 years who in my opinion are the basis of the sport’s success,” he said.

He expressed thanks to Airtel for coming up with the programme that he described as exceptionally essential to the development of football in Africa. When I asked him at the dinner about the prospect of the youngsters including those from Sierra Leone, he said: “Just like all the other kids they have a great opportunity to learn from this clinic and they can go back home with much more inspiration and skills,” he noted.

Airtel Tanzania Marketing Director, Cheik Sarr said Airtel said this phase of the Rising Star initiative that was perhaps the most important phase in the tournament. “The camp will give these students an opportunity to enrich their skills and develop them into complete professionals,” he said.

The Tanzania based Manchester United football clinic will be hosted at the National Stadium from Sunday to Thursday next week and Billy Miller, Manchester United youth coach who is leading heading the Tanzania programme told me they aim to focus on imbibing a truly winning mentality on the heads of the youngsters. “We truly want to instil in them basic football discipline that will enhance their game and give them the Manchester United winning mentality.

Angetile Osiah, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Secretary General lauded Airtel and the Manchester United Soccer Schools’ coaches for setting up the programme. “I am also grateful to have learned that Manchester United has its own philosophy, which is that of attacking footbal,” said Angetile Osiah.

Youngster, Naim Ashraf from Kenya told me he is still overwhelmed by events taking place around him, “I just want to get ready and get to learn more from the football clinic,” he said.
