Africell present Hajj packages to winners
As their corporate and social responsibility Africell put a smile to its subscribers in presenting Hajj packages to winners of the 2011 Ramadan Hajj promotions at the Africell HQ on Wednesday 19th October, 2011.
In a statement to journalists, Africell’s Director of Administration, Mr. Abdul Gabisi, said Africell respects all faith systems and has always joined in the celebrations of all major religious festivals in the country, adding that the 2011 Ramadan promotion was launched on the 1st August 2011 and it was threefold: re, (i) Gentri Na Wi Domot – in which many subscribers won generators, televisions, portable DVDs, cool man, stereo players, mobile phones, standing fans and other food items. (ii) Money Na Wi Domot –where hundreds of subscribers had the privilege to enter the cash chamber to take away as much as they could grab., and (iii) Hajj packages where subscribers quailed for the weekly draws after recharging their phones.
Mr Gabisi stated that four weekly draws were held and the following winners emerged.
Kemoh Kamara is the first winner with GSM No.077-216-754, who resides at Peters Street, Lunsar he nominated his father Haroun Anthamba Kamara to represent him. Second is Mariama M. Bangura with GSM No. 077-633-242 of 15 Turay Street, Makeni who nominated her mother, third is Madam Adama Barrie’ Amadu Bangura No. 088-774-858 of 5 Kissy Brook, Kissy, Freetown, who nominated his aunt Mrs. Fatmatta Jalloh, and lastly Ibrahim Bun Koroma, GSM No.077-525-705, who also nominate his aunt Adama Bangura.
Mr Gabisi noted Africell requested for an additional pilgrim to be nominated by their host community of Wilberforce in appreciation of their kind hospitality and the nominee for this slot is Massalay Dumbuya. He further maintain that the sponsorship package includes cost of airfares, accommodation in Mecca and Jeddah, transportation and health care, plus an amount for personal expenses, all totaling US$4,100 for each pilgrim.
Mr Gabisi also noted that as part of the observance of the month of Ramadan, Africell provides food and drinks (IFTAR) to over 10,000 needy Muslims in mosques in Pujehun, Moyamba, Portloko, Kambia, Kailahun, Segbwema and Freetown. Adding that, this was regarded as the biggest such event in Sierra Leone, if not in the region.
Giving the keynote address, Sheik Dr. Ibrahim Sallieu Kamara commended Africell for providing this opportunity to the less privileged to perform the Hajj. He felt so good to see young Muslims giving opportunities to their parents and elder relatives to make the trip. He further said Hajj is one of the greatest institutions that brings together over seven million people from across the world to worship Allah.
The Honorable for Constituency 110, Hon Chernor M. Bah said the generosity demonstrated by Africell is in line to one of the pillars of Islam which is Zakat. He recalled that the company has been of great help to the entire nation, especially the construction of the clock tower in Makeni, and renovation of the Freetown cotton tree, etc. He said Africell has shown that they are very much transparent and this is clearly seen in the empowerment of the grassroots people in their unbeatable promotions.
The Hajj package winners commended the company for a job well done in national development and for providing the opportunity to their family members.
