Salone Radio Amsterdam interviews key players in the TRQN project

Aside the government ofSierra Leone, there are various NGOs, INGOs and inter-governmental governmental organizations that contribute to the socio-economic and political development ofSierra Leone. One of such intergovernmental organizations is International Organization for Migration (IOM).

IOM which was established in 1951 the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.  This organization “IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.”

IOM in the Netherlandsassists migrants with voluntary return to their country of origin and sustainable reintegration. IOM also arranges the travel of invited refugees and family members that have received authorization to be reunited with their families in the Netherlands. As a third activity, IOM facilitates qualified migrants who reside in the Netherlands to help with the development or reconstruction of their country of origin through temporary return projects. The Temporary Return of Qualified Nationals (TRQN) project was born out of the third activity:

The project, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, facilitates the temporary return of highly qualified nationals ofAfghanistan,Bosnia and Herzegovina,Ethiopia,Georgia,Sierra LeoneandSudan, who are resident in theNetherlands, to help with reconstruction of their country of origin.
