PPASL launches maternal unit

PPASL launches maternal unit

In a bid to complementing efforts of Government in the prevention of maternal and mortality rate in the country, Planned Parenthood Association Sierra Leone (PPASL) Friday 30th September launched its Maternal Unit.

The unit will nonetheless minimize the death rate of new-born babies and pregnant mothers during reproduction.

The ceremony which was held at PPASL’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinic at Wesley Street Freetown also witnessed the presence of respective medical practitioners, UN representatives, officials from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and important civil society organizations from across the country.

In his key note address, the Director of Reproductive Child Health in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr. S.A.S Kargbo, thanked PPASL’s Executive Director, Mrs. Selina Ade-Williams and staff for accomplishing their mission, which according to him, is a big boost to government’s Free Health Care Initiative in the country.

He said that the Ministry of Health has always been at fore in ensuring that maternal and mortality rate is reduced in the country.

“Just as PPASL initiates strategies that complement government’s efforts thus imputing qualitative health delivery system in the country, so also are Health Ministry’s officials,” Dr. Kargbo said.

“Government can never do it alone. We want reputable agencies and non- governmental organizations support us in our ventures.”
