Airtel awards rising stars
Airtel, Friday 30th, awarded Rising Stars of the just concluded Under-17 tournament at the Miatta Conference Hall, Freetown.
Airtel Sierra Leone’s Managing Director, RVS Bhullah, in his measurement told persons present that he is pleased over the successful completion of the 2011 Airtel Rising Stars Tournament.
He said however that 4 young Sierra Leonean football talents will leave the shores of Freetown to join others at the Manchester United football clinic in Tanzania.
He encouraged all to take advantage of such opportunities given by Airtel.
Representative of Western Area Football Association (WAFA), Abu Kumba said the Airtel Rising Stars tournament is important because it serves the youth of the country.
Aiah Dickson Brima, another envoy of WAFA said that Airtel had successfully conducted youth football tournaments nationwide and that talents have been identified.
He further stated that Airtel has set a pace worth emulating by football stakeholders.
He admonished management of Airtel to continue with their kind gesture.
The Minster of Youth, Employment & Sports, Paul Kamara, told all present that Sierra Leone has got another partner in football – Airtel.
“Airtel’s mission is to bring a revolution in soccer countrywide,” the Minister said.
“In football, the strong structures for those who play the game come first. This is what Airtel is apparently doing.
Airtel is practically identifying young stars at the start of their football career and trying to develop them.”
He further stated that with this development, it is unfailing that Sierra Leone will surely qualify for the Under 17 World Cup.
The awards were presented by RVS Bhullah and Keith Tukei to the various individuals.
BOYS
- Best Player – Hamza Kamara from 13 Legion
- Top Goal Scorer- Theophilus Conteh of 13 Legion
- Best Goalkeeper- Edward Conteh of 13 Legion
GIRLS
- Best Player – Mariatu Conteh (Torres) of Suba United
- Top Goal Scorer – Mariatu Conteh of Suba United
- Best Goalkeeper- Cecilia Bangura of Suba United
The final result was then announced for the 4 Rising Stars who would go to Tanzania.
BOYS

- Hamza.L.Kamara of 13 Legion
GIRLS
- Mariatu Conteh of Suba United
- Rashidatu Kamara of Red Eaglets
All four Rising Stars appreciate Airtel and said that the company has made them understand the true meaning of football.
In another development, Airtel’s back to school promotional draw ended Saturday1st at their Rawdon Street office in Freetown.
Prizes such as a refrigerator, freezer, generator, home theatre, LCD TV and cash prizes were won.
