He underscored the need for the military to adhere to a positive attitude as their role in the society is crucial. “The image of the military should be built by serving the purpose for which it was established,” he said.
He noted that the military was known to be disciplined but it later declined due to its involvement in politics which resulted to several coups in the past. He referred to that as attitudinal problems.
The Executive Director stated that though everyone belongs to a political party, the military should remain neutral in order to build the image of its institution. “RSLAF should remain RSLAF,’’ he maintained.
He expressed the desire of the ABC to partner with the military to effect change, saying that the ABC Secretariat intends to establish ABC clubs within RSLAF to bolster the relationship between the ABC Secretariat and RSLAF.
He told military personnel that the aim of the ABC is to build strong institutions in the country and that the military should prepare to change its attitude to realize the success of the president’s Agenda for Change.
Dr. Thomas encouraged members of the military to be each other’s keeper and warned them against indulging on things that will dent their image such as the pull him down syndrome.
He acknowledged that RSLAF is a professional institution as they are now participating at international level as peace keepers.
The National Coordinator of the ABC Secretariat Nanette Thomas, has stated that junior officers should be guided by senior officers, saying that change is a process and the only way it can happen is when one is willing to accept it.
She said positive attitude is what drives someone to success, adding that the only hope in life is the ability to change.
She stated that the role of the military is to protect the territorial integrity of the country and to protect lives and property.
She cautioned military personnel not to disrespect the law as they are not above the law.
She stated that the military should not allow politicians to use it for their shellfish gains as it will not augur well for the development of the country.
The National Coordinator encouraged military officers to read an attitudinal change book that teaches “an amazing way to deal with change in your work and your life” titled “Who Moved My Cheese, ’’ written by Spencer Johnson M.D.
Wing Commander JAS Gbondo , expressed his delight to the ABC Secretariat for admonishing RSLAF and assured them that the military will cooperate with the Secretariat to make the campaign realize its goal.
