FREETOWN: The Champion of the Sierra Leone Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (SLEITI), State House Chief of Staff, Dr. Kaifala Marah has called on mining companies to work harder in close partnership with Government to ensure that the desired goals of the initiative are achieved.  (Photo: SLEITI Champion State House Chief of
Staff, Dr Kaifala Marah)

Dr. Marah made the appeal on (Friday) 5th August 2011, whilst addressing a meeting with executive representatives of exploration and mining companies in the Drawing Room at State House, Freetown.

Speaking during the meeting the COS said one of the key activities of the EITI Secretariat is to conduct the second reconciliation exercise for the period of 2008, 2009 and 2010 which requires the full participation of mining and exploration companies in the process.

He further disclosed that an auditing firm will soon be contracted to reconcile payments made by companies with revenues collected by ministries, departments and agencies from the mineral sector for the period under review.

Dr. Marah also informed mining companies that the State House based EITI Secretariat has been moved to 29 Dundas Street in Freetown, for easy public access, in particular the civil society groups.

Present at the meeting were Sylvia Kelley of the World Bank, Kenie Lamin, SLEITI Coordinator, Mangay Sankoh of Sierra Rutile Limited and a host of other mining and exploration companies representatives.
