Cheng Li Mining Company To Reduce Unemployment in Sierra Leone

Not many private sector players have lived up to their promises of providing employment for Sierra Leoneans over the years. By way of changing the narrative in complementing the efforts of Government in addressing this problem, Cheng Li Mining company operating in Dalakuru in the Koinadugu district, is not only poised to creating employment for hundreds of Sierra Leoneans by the end of the year.
The company has already commenced clearing operations on site in readiness for full scale mining activities that will bring numerous related opportunities for the locals in the mining communities.
“We are here preparing the site for mining”, said Fassaly Tarawalie, Country Manager of Cheng Li, also one of the leading diamond and gold exporters in Sierra Leone with more than ten years of experience in the industry; adding that the company would provide jobs for hundreds of Sierra Leoneans in addition to those that were already engaged.
Fassaly disclosed that the company has embarked on the alluvial phase, which would soon be followed by the hard rock phase.
Chief Geologist Officer, Ambrose Bundeh, assured that they had tested the efficiency of the plant to ensure that it is up the standard.
On behalf of the Community, Councilor Francis Koroma expressed satisfaction with the operations of the company and commended its compliance with Corporate Social Responsibility. “I am very much impressed with the company because they are meeting with their Corporate Social Responsibility and payment of their license and surface rent”, said Councilor Koroma.
