Salone soldier ambushed and killed in Sudan

A Corporal in the Sierra Leone Military contingent in Darfur, Sudan is reportedly killed after falling into ambush in the town of Nyala in Darfur, Sudan.

Corporal Sheku Mansaray, we are told, was killed late Friday evening shortly after falling into an ambush stepped up rebels within the region of Darfur.

The late man is a father of seven children and two wives. He was among a contingent of Sierra Leone soldiers on peace mission to Darfur, Sudan.

It could be recalled that in late 2010, some soldiers were involved in a road accident thereby losing their lives.

An inspector of police who also was on United Nations peace mission in Darfur fell into an ambush early this year and was murdered in cold blood.

The corpse of Cpl Sheku is yet to be flown from the region of Darfur to Sierra Leone for burial.

Even though bereaved family members refused to speak to our reporter, facts have it that the information concerning the death of the late military Corporal was told his family by colleague officers serving as peace keeper in Darfur.

It has been told that the information about Corporal Sheku’s death has sparked discouragement in minds of his wives and seven children.

Inside military sources say that the remains of Corporal Sheku will be flown to Freetown anytime this week.

It is expected however that management of the Sierra Leone Army will today visit family members of Corporal Sheku at their Malama residence in Freetown.
