Magistrate Wellington grants 15M bail to fraudster
Thelma Tucker, a business woman yesterday appeared before Magistrate Johannes Wellington of Court No2 on two charges of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
In the particulars of offence, it is alleged that the accused on diverse dates between the 1st and 31st of March 2010, at the Access Bank Compound, Cline Town, with intent to defraud, obtained Le 3.5 million from Alhaji Idrissa Bangura by falsely pretending that he will cause the latter’s travelling to Australia using a refugee status, knowing same to be false.
It is also stated in the indictment chat that between the 1st and 30th April 2010, at the China House Entertainment Club, Brook Fields, the accused with intent to defraud obtained Le 11.5 million from Alhaji Idrissa Bangura by falsely pretending that he will facilitate his travelling to Australia as a refugee, knowing same to be false.
After meticulous consideration of the applications submitted by both the prosecution and defence, Magistrate Wellington however granted bail to the accused on the sum of Le 15 million.
The matter will come up on the 5th of August 2011.
