Social Welfare, Police to Fight Sexual Harassment

The Ministry of Social Welfare in collaboration with the New England Ville Police Station plan to vigorously combat the growing rate of sexual harassment in the community reports reaching Sierra Express reveal.

The New Police Family Support Unit (FSU) in collaboration with community stakeholders and in support of the Ministry of Gender and Children Affairs on 11th November held a meeting to discuss ways to combat sexual harassment and child abuse in that community. Stakeholders from New England, Sorie Town, Sumaila Town and Brookfields took part in the meeting. The officer in charge, assistant superintendent Dennis Taylor told the community about the present increase of crime in the community which is actually alarming the entire city. He said the New England community comprises of inhabitants of various walks of life and that domestic crime rate is on the increase in the area which is why the FSU and the Ministry and Community People have come together to combat the menace he said.

But the main reason of the meeting, according officials, was to admonish community members to stop arranging certain child abuse cases at home because such will encourage those who commit crime to continue with impunity. He therefore said community people have the onus to help the police in bringing to light perpetrators, particularly the male adults who are in the habit of abusing children so that the law will take its course rather than keeping it secret at home until such could not be no longer be controlled. The crime officer Sergeant Hassan Dumbuya said the motivation from him , he told the community elders that the should join hands to work without hesitation, adding that women and children are more or less suppressed and maltreated in certain cases. He admonished the officers to apply all human effort including the community people to take up a challenge against criminals while reminding the audience about the traditional roles of police, Mr. Dumbuya explained that the police is not only for women, adding that no one is above the law and the all should therefore maintain law and order.

Speaking, the community leader Pa ALHAJI Dumbuya said the entire entourage was happy to have such a meeting with the police in order to share their problems with them so the can find solution to it.
